Notifications

You choose what reaches you, and how, under Settings > Notifications. Every email from Folke has a Notification preferences link at the bottom that opens the same page.

Each notification is a row, with a box for each way it can arrive: Email, Push and, where your organisation uses it, Slack. Every box starts ticked.

  1. Untick a box to stop that notification arriving that way.
  2. Select Save Preferences.

Where a card has two or more boxes in a column, the box at the top of that column ticks or unticks them all at once.

Some rows are only for certain roles, so the list depends on yours. The Rota and Moments rows only show on the Pro plan, where they’re sent.

  • Leave request confirmation, when you send a request
  • Leave approved and Leave rejected
  • Leave added on your behalf, Leave changed for you and Leave cancelled for you, when a manager books, changes or cancels your leave
  • Leave cancellation confirmation, when you cancel your own leave
  • Leave reminder, before your leave starts
  • Bank holiday reminder, before a bank holiday
  • Welcome back, when you’re back from leave
  • Time-off nudge, if you haven’t had a break in a while. See Time for a break.
  • Carried-over days, two weeks before any you carried over expire, if some are still to book
  • Rota booking reminder, the day before a desk you’ve booked
  • New and changed closures and events
  • Closures and events coming up

Role managers, leave managers, team managers and org admins get these, for the team members whose requests they can approve. A role manager only gets them for team members in their own team role.

  • Team leave submitted, when someone asks for leave
  • Team leave edited, when someone changes a pending request
  • Team leave cancelled, when someone’s leave is cancelled
  • Your birthday and Your work anniversary
  • Team birthday heads-up and Team work-anniversary heads-up, for your teammates’ days
  • Join request received, for org admins, when someone asks to join
  • Join request approved and Join request rejected, while your own request to join is waiting

Org admins also get Trial expiring, Payment failed and Subscription cancelled.

  • Leave reminder: 10 and 3 working days before approved leave starts.
  • Welcome back: the morning of your first working day back.
  • Bank holiday reminder: 3 working days before.
  • Closures and events coming up: a closure 10 and 3 working days before, an event 3 working days before.
  • Rota booking reminder: in the afternoon, the day before.
  • Birthdays and work anniversaries: in the morning, on the day.
  • Time-off nudge: at most once a month.
  • Carried-over days: once, two weeks before they expire.

Leave that starts on a day off, like a Saturday or a bank holiday, is reminded as if it started on the working day before. These pause while your organisation’s subscription has lapsed, and none of them go to someone who has been invited but hasn’t signed in yet.

Push notifications arrive on your phone or computer like any app’s.

  1. Under Push Notification, turn on Notifications on this device. It works straight away, with no need to save.
  2. Allow notifications when your browser asks.

Do this on each device you want them on, since each one is switched on separately. On an iPhone or iPad, push works once Folke is on your home screen, so install it first.

The Push boxes choose which notifications push, separately from email, so you can keep one and drop the other.

  • A push names the dates, never the type of leave, so a lock screen doesn’t show what kind of time off someone has booked.
  • Tapping one opens the page it’s about.
  • Signing out turns push off on that device.
  • If the card says notifications are blocked, allow them for Folke in your browser’s site settings, then come back.

Once your organisation has connected Slack and turned on direct messages, a Slack column appears beside the notifications that can come as a Slack message. See Folke in Slack.

Emails come from your organisation’s name followed by “via Folke”, so they’re easy to spot in your inbox.

These can’t be turned off, because they’re about getting into your account or paying for Folke:

  • invitations to join, and the reminder before one runs out
  • password resets
  • the email asking you to confirm your address when you ask to join an organisation, and the reminder before its link runs out
  • for org admins, the Subscription Activated receipt
