SlackPro

This page is for org admins. Slack is under Organisation Settings > Integrations > Slack.

  1. Go to Organisation Settings > Integrations.
  2. Select Connect beside Slack.
  3. Approve Folke in Slack, and you’ll come back to its settings.

Finish in the same browser, within an hour of starting. One Slack workspace can connect to one Folke organisation. If you cancel in Slack, you’re taken back to Integrations.

Once it’s connected, select Slack on Integrations to open its settings. Changes save with Save Settings.

Choose a Channel for the whole team, and add the Folke bot to that channel in Slack so it can post there. Then turn on what to post. All three are off to start.

  • Announce birthdays and Announce work anniversaries: posted in the morning on the day. Birthdays follow each team member’s own privacy choice, so someone who hides their birthday isn’t announced.
  • Announce closures and events: posted when one is added or changed, and again 3 working days before.

Company milestones from the Moments page are never posted.

With birthdays or anniversaries on, Include a GIF adds one to those posts. It’s on to start. Change what it searches for with Birthday GIF search term and Anniversary GIF search term.

Send direct messages lets Folke message team members in Slack, like a leave approval, a rota reminder, a welcome back, or a nudge to take some time off. It’s off until you turn it on. Then everyone gets them unless they untick them in their own Settings > Notifications. Team members are matched to Slack by their Folke email address. See Folke in Slack.

The Commands card lists what /folke can do. Anyone in the workspace can type /folke leave, /folke leave-today or /folke rota for an answer only they see, matched by the email on their Slack profile.

At the foot of the page, choose a Message and select Send test. It posts to the channel you’ve saved, so pick a Channel and select Save Settings first. Previews of direct messages go to the channel too, so you can see them without messaging anyone.

If you see “Could not post to Slack. Check the bot has been added to that channel.”, add the bot to the channel in Slack and try again.

Disconnect asks first. It then stops every announcement and direct message, and forgets the channel and everyone’s matched Slack accounts. Connecting again means approving Folke in Slack once more.
