Your allowance

Your allowance is time to use, not a balance to protect. If you’ve used it all, you’ve earned what you took.

For Annual Leave, Folke uses the first of these that’s set:

  1. an allowance an org admin has set just for you
  2. your team role’s allowance
  3. Annual Leave’s allowance for the whole organisation

So if your team role doesn’t have an allowance of its own, you get Annual Leave’s.

Unlimited can come from two places. If Annual Leave is set to Unlimited, it covers everyone, even team members with an allowance of their own. If your team role is Unlimited, so are you, unless you have an allowance of your own. With unlimited leave Folke still shows the days you’ve taken, with no total, so you can see you’re taking breaks.

Other leave types, like Sick Leave, use their own figure, the same for everyone. A type with no allowance set has no cap, so there’s no total to count down from.

Requests waiting for approval are already held against what’s left, so two requests can’t spend the same days.

The figures can differ slightly depending on where you look:

  • Home and My Leave: the Annual Leave used tile shows days used out of your total. It counts approved leave only.
  • Settings > Organisation: every leave type with its Allowance, Used, Pending, Notice and Remaining. A type with no cap reads No limit.

Remaining is the same figure everywhere you see it: your allowance and anything carried over, less what’s approved and what’s waiting for approval. On the request form, the figure beside a leave type, like “3/28 days used or requested”, counts pending requests too, since those days are already spoken for.

  • The request form: “used” there includes pending requests, since those days are already spoken for.

Allowances run over your organisation’s leave year, which isn’t always January to December. Many start in April. Your leave year’s dates are under Settings > Organisation, and the request form names it, like “2026”, or “2026/27” for a year that runs across two. Your allowance starts afresh by itself each new leave year.

Leave that runs over the end of a leave year is split: each day counts against the year it falls in. The form only lets a range reach as far as what’s left in the year it starts in, so if that stops you running past the year end, book it as two requests, one either side.

Using up this year’s days doesn’t stop you booking next year. Pick a date in next year and the form switches to next year’s figures. How many years ahead you can book is set by your organisation.

If your organisation allows it, unused Annual Leave from last leave year carries over. The Annual Leave used tile adds it to your total and says how much, like “3 days carried over · Before 31st March 2027”, where the date is the end of the current leave year. If your carried days lapse sooner, it says so instead: “3 days carried over, use by 1st April 2026”.

There may be a cap on how many days carry over, and they may expire a set number of days into the new leave year. Carry over is for Annual Leave only, and only appears in the current leave year’s figures. With unlimited leave there’s nothing to carry.

Carried-over days are yours to book like any others. The request form counts them in what you have left, so a week off can use last year’s days as well as this year’s. If they expire, use them before then: a break is what they’re for. Any you’ve already used by then stay used; only the ones left over lapse.

If an org admin has set your working days, you’re only charged for the days you work. Folke doesn’t scale an allowance for part-time hours by itself, so if yours should differ, an org admin can set one just for you.

Bank holidays usually don’t come off your allowance. Which ones you get depends on the country and region in your profile.
