Folke in SlackPro

If your organisation has connected Slack, Folke can reach you where you already are: a heads-up before your leave, a welcome back when you return, and a nudge if it’s been a while since your last break.

Once an org admin turns on Send direct messages, a Slack column appears in Settings > Notifications. Every Slack message is on until you untick it and select Save Preferences.

You can get a Slack message for:

  • your leave being approved or rejected, or booked, changed or cancelled for you
  • a reminder 3 days before your leave starts, and a welcome back when you return
  • the time-off nudge, if you haven’t had a break in a while
  • a bank holiday coming up, and closures and events when they’re added, changed or coming up
  • a desk you’ve booked on the rota, the day before
  • requests from your team, if you approve leave
  • someone asking to join, if you’re an org admin

Confirmations of things you’ve just done yourself, moments and billing don’t come as Slack messages.

Folke matches you to Slack by the email address on your Folke profile. If your Slack account uses a different address, Slack messages won’t reach you until the two match. You can change the address Folke uses under Settings > Profile.

Type /folke in any Slack message box to look something up without opening Folke:

  • /folke leave - how much leave you have left this leave year (or that there’s no set limit, if your leave is unlimited), and your next three approved bookings
  • /folke leave-today (or /folke today) - who’s off today, by name only, from the team members you can see on the team calendar
  • /folke rota - who has a desk booked today, room by room
  • /folke help - the list of commands

Only you see the reply, even if you type it in a busy channel. The commands only look things up: booking and approving leave still happen in Folke.

If an org admin has chosen a channel, Folke posts there for the whole team. They pick what goes there: birthdays, work anniversaries, and closures and events when they’re added, changed or coming up.

A birthday you’ve hidden is never announced. See Your profile and privacy.
